YEAST ROLLS

This is another recipe from the 1955 Marshall Township PTA.  This recipe was submitted by Mrs. Wm. McKee Anderson.  Does anyone remember who this might be?

1 cup milk
2 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
About 3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 cake yeast
2 tbsp. lukewarm water

Heat milk and add shortening, sugar, and salt.  When lukewarm, add the yeast cake, dissolved in water.  Add 1 cup flour and beat thoroughly.  Cover and set in a warm place to rise until light, about 1 hour.  Add remaining flour to make a firm dough.  Knead on a lightly floured board until smooth and elastic to the touch. Cover and set in a warm place to rise until double in bulk.  Knead down, shape into rolls, bake in 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.
